<p>The article takes a look at and analyses some of the most recent developments within the EU on combatting terrorism, with a particular focus on selected areas: the EU Security Union Strategy, the EU Counter-Terrorism Agenda, Europol’s strengthened mandate, addressing the dissemination of terrorist content online, the latest EU legislative package on anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism, as well as EU border management and the interoperability of relevant large-scale EU IT databases within the context of keeping the EU’s borders secure. It places these latest developments within the wider context of EU counter-terrorism cooperation and coordination from its beginnings up to today and also the within the context of the Global War on Terrorism. Whilst doing so, the question is posed and assessed as to whether further coordinating actions and impetus are required within the EU counter-terrorism field, or whether the current procedure can be considered adequate in a world that has seemingly shifted its focus away from such a Global War.</p>

摘要

The article takes a look at and analyses some of the most recent developments within the EU on combatting terrorism, with a particular focus on selected areas: the EU Security Union Strategy, the EU Counter-Terrorism Agenda, Europol’s strengthened mandate, addressing the dissemination of terrorist content online, the latest EU legislative package on anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism, as well as EU border management and the interoperability of relevant large-scale EU IT databases within the context of keeping the EU’s borders secure.
