摘要

Over the past decade, texturing has emerged as a notable surface modification technique for altering cutting tool surfaces, capturing the interest of researchers. This approach proves effective in enhancing the characteristics of cutting tool surfaces. The current paper extensively reviews available literature starting with up-to-date literature introduction followed by tool surface texturing influences on machining performance, taking into account diverse textures, patterns, generation methods, and performance metrics. This critical analysis covers the period from 2009 to 2022, with the objective of identifying sustainable strategies for tool surface texturing and addressing key questions in the field. Three primary questions are posed: (1) What texture predominates for cutting tools? (2) What texture pattern holds the most significance? (3) Which texture generation method is most suitable? The literature reveals that textured tools exhibit reductions in cutting temperature (up to 40%), contact area (up to 30%), and cutting force (up to 20%), while also experiencing an increase in tool life (up to 30%). Notably, nature-inspired textures and patterns have garnered significant attention from researchers and have proven beneficial for cutting tools. Furthermore, Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) and Laser texture generation methods have emerged as prominent techniques. This article serves as a foundational guide for future research, providing insights into different textures, texture patterns, texture generation methods, and their potential effects in various machining environments.
