Development stages of a number of electromechanical systems to establish a green additive remanufacturing ecosystem

Higher education campuses are continually striving to find sustainable and cost-effective processes that incorporate technologies such as Additive Manufacturing (AM). University grounds have plastic waste receptacles and recycling bins but lack a method of processing the waste on site. The process of converting discarded water bottles into high-quality Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) filament offers a sustainable solution to the ever-growing plastic waste problem. The problem that the current project seeks to solve is how to eliminate plastic waste while creating a system to produce filaments for use by people for both academic and everyday design and fabrication needs. The proposed processes seek to design an innovative solution to the problem of plastic waste management, while exploring different facets of the filament fabrication atmosphere.
