<p>In order to clearly demonstrate the influences of terminal sticker group on thickening, a&#xa0;series of ethoxylated urethane polymers were prepared with tristyrylphenol ethoxylate (TP) and polyethylene&#xa0;glycol methyl ether (MP) as terminal groups. Viscosity behaviors of both series were studied for polymer solutions and thickened latex. MP series did not show obvious thickening effects. For TP series, viscosity of polymer solutions and thickened latex increased with the hydrophobic group percentage in polymers. Ethoxylated urethane polymers were also used to disperse carbon black pigment to explore the potential of combining a thickener and dispersant together for paints applications. With the decreasing of hydrophobic sticker groups percentage in TP series, polymers showed better dispersing performance. TP-6–9 showed the stronger color strength, indicating better comparable in white paint. Based on these results, this would be one type of dispersing and thickening 2-in-1 additive for paints.</p>
