摘要

As in the 2011 census, the 2022 census employed a register-based method in Germany, not requiring a traditional full survey. Household generating procedure was used to link the data from official registers with data from the housing census, generating households at the same time. The functionality of the household generating procedure has not yet been empirically verified independent of its input data, which this study was able to achieve for the first time. The 2022 census sample data was used as the basis for this study, comparing the households surveyed from the sample with households generated using the same data. One of the quality criteria used was a distance measure which quantifies the distance between the surveyed and the generated households at an address. The results show that under ideal conditions, i.e., with nearly perfect input data, the household generating procedure is able to match the surveyed households almost completely correctly. Even under real conditions, such as those found in the 2022 census, household generating procedure was capable of representing household and family structures reliably. The household generating procedure is a proven method and will most likely be used again in the next census in 2031.
