<p>The Working Group on Regional Accounts was founded in 1954. In a&#xa0;federal system, the state governments also need sufficiently regionalized data for political control. The development of regional accounts or their aggregates took place successively and was also extended to the levels of administrative districts and districts. However, the regionalised provision of economic characteristics faces particular challenges due to the availability of statistical data in time and space. Nevertheless, the working group has succeeded in establishing a&#xa0;three-page calculation of the origin, use and distribution of gross domestic product. Reunification and the need for data in the context of the development of the European internal market presented particular challenges. The working group managed to overcome these challenges through cooperative and work-sharing cooperation and the high priority of quality assurance.</p>
