Purpose of review <p>Glucagon-like peptide-1(GLP-1) analogues have emerged as vital therapies in Managing type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity, with cardiovascular benefits. With the increased cardiovascular risk associated with rheumatic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and systemic sclerosis (SSc), GLP-1 analogues, which have proven anti-inflammatory properties in addition to glucose-lowering and weight reduction, may play a potential role in this population group.</p> Recent findings <p>GLP-1 analogues have shown significant potential in improving cardiovascular outcomes, yet their safety and efficacy in rheumatic diseases are yet to be established. Given its known anti-inflammatory properties demonstrated in atherosclerosis prevention, GLP-1 analogues appear to be reasonable additional therapeutic options for rheumatic diseases, especially in high CVD risk population.</p> Summary <p>This review discusses the current evidence on the impact of GLP- 1 analogues on cardiovascular outcomes in patients with rheumatic diseases, evidence gaps, and future research directions. Further investigations emphasizing GLP-1RAs' effect on cardiovascular outcomes of each specific rheumatic disease population are warranted.</p>
