摘要

Purpose of Review

Though the utilization of prolotherapy has been described since the 1930s, there still exists a paucity of information about its contemporary application as an alternative or complementary treatment modality for chronic musculoskeletal pelvic pain.

Recent Findings

Prolotherapy may serve as a safe and efficacious nonsurgical intervention for the treatment of a multitude of chronic pelvic pain conditions, particularly in cases where conservative medical management and physical therapy have failed.

Summary

In this narrative review, we discuss the current evidence suggesting that prolotherapy is effective in the treatment of various pain conditions involving the musculoskeletal structures of the pelvis such as sacroiliac joint pain, coccydynia, deep gluteal syndrome, and chronic groin pain. Future prospective clinical studies are necessary to better define and characterize the role of prolotherapy as a mainstay of treatment for chronic pelvic pain.
