Utilization of Steroid Sparing Agents for Immune-Related Adverse Events (irAEs): Management Strategies and Considerations
摘要
Steroid-sparing immunomodulatory agents (SSIAs) are frequently used to treat steroid-refractory immune related adverse events (irAEs) from immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). This paper aims to review the evidence supporting the use of particular SSIAs for different irAEs, and practical considerations for choosing between SSIAs including unique toxicity profiles, infectious considerations, and cost implications.
Recent FindingsSSIAs have been shown to be effective for steroid-refractory irAEs in multiple case series and some clinical trials, but there is limited prospective evidence comparing the efficacy of one SSIA to another.
SummaryEffective treatment of irAEs is essential to improving patient outcomes. This article aims to help clinicians understand the data behind available SSIAs, and understand drug-specific considerations that may influence the choice of SSIAs in different situations.
