Purpose <p>The purpose of this review is to identify studies published on the use of AI in antimicrobial stewardship and to review its role in clinical practice.</p> Recent Findings <p>AI, specifically machine learning algorithms, has demonstrated utility in tasks such as antibiotic selection, identifying inappropriate prescribing practices, and prediction of resistance patterns. However, infectious diseases (ID) experts perform better in higher level, complex clinical decision making compared to AI.</p> Summary <p>While AI provides value to antimicrobial stewardship programs, it does not replace the complex clinical decision making of ID experts. As AI continues to advance, antibiotic stewards must recognize its potential benefits and harms in clinical practice. AI should thoughtfully be incorporated into ID practice to enhance ASP.</p>
