<p>Policing is known for occupational hazards and increased traumatic exposures. While research on the effects of policing on officers is advancing, there is a lack of research on the impacts on those who informally support them, such as spouses. Police wives play a crucial role by offering emotional support, validation, and managing domestic responsibilities, while recognizing the heightened risks their partners face. This qualitative study examined the emotional labor of these wives and its impact. Using reflexive thematic analysis on data from fifteen interviews, four themes were identified: unmet emotional needs by their husbands, ripple effects stemming from their husbands’ work changes, an absolution of responsibilities due to policing demands, and love and pride in their husbands’ service, justifying the additional support. Analysis suggested that police departments should develop and implement resources to support wives, enabling them to assist their partners while mitigating any potential negative impacts of their commitment.</p>
