HoLEP or ThuLEP? A Review on the Current Evidence from Randomized Controlled Trials
摘要
In this review, the current evidence from randomized controlled trials on the intra- and postoperative outcomes of holmium versus thulium laser enucleation of the prostate will be addressed.
Recent findingsEndoscopic enucleation has become the new standard of care beside TURP. Multiple retro- and prospective studies comparing HoLEP and ThuLEP, have reported heterogeneous results. Despite the large amount of available data, there is no clear evidence on which laser performs best.
SummaryHoLEP and ThuLEP are comparably safe and effective treatments, with similar intra- and postoperative outcomes. Differences showed by high-quality studies, mainly regarding bleeding risk, seem to have no significant clinical impact and are not confirmed by all the studies, therefore leaving some uncertainties. Other studies are needed to confirm possible differences, if any, between HoLEP and ThuLEP.
