<p>Once ideal for vineyard cultivation, the Mediterranean coastal region is now experiencing declining grape harvests due to increased droughts and heat waves. The changing patterns of the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) in Mediterranean wine-growing regions are emerging as a key area of scientific inquiry. This study aimed to explore the potential of Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer (ChatGPT) for generating NDVI from multispectral satellite imagery in Mediterranean wine-growing regions. The study results indicate a high correlation between NDVI values derived from ChatGPT and ArcMap, with identical spatial patterns at the 5% significance level (<i>p</i> &lt; 0.05). It showed the possibility that farmers cultivating grape orchards who are not experts in remote sensing can calculate NDVI using ChatGPT. The NDVI provided by ChatGPT can be used for precision farming, such as determining which areas of the grape orchard need more water and when and how much fertilizer to apply. Our research offers valuable insights into the potential and constraints of using ChatGPT to generate NDVI compared to traditional methods.</p>
