Identification and mapping of coastal flooding occurrences in the city of Camocim, Northeast Brazil

This article is a study on the accentuated wear of the boardwalk of Beira-Mar Avenue of Camocim (west coast of the State of Ceará, Northeast Brazil), caused by the erosive action of large waves colliding with the structure of the boardwalk, causing floods, craters and risks of landslides. This problem makes the transit of people unfeasible, in addition to generating additional costs for the public administration, which acts with palliative measures from ineffective potholes. Faced with this problem, the construction of this research was proposed, with the objective of quantifying the number of coastal flooding occurrences on Beira-Mar Avenue in the city of Camocim, collecting information from the search tools of Facebook, YouTube, Blogs and Sites. Soon after, these occurrences were mapped using Google Earth Pro software, thus allowing the construction of inferences about the seasonal behavior of this phenomenon. The results show that the highest rates occurred between spring (end of the year) and summer (beginning of the year), with greater action from swell-type waves (periods longer than 10 s), thus generating stronger waves at the mouth of the river (left bank). These results can bring important information to the public administration, in order to better manage and apply financial resources to solve this problem.
