摘要

This article explores the weakness of pneumatology in Hauerwas’ theology and its impact on the theological project, particularly in areas such as ethics, sanctification and justification theory, and the formation of character. The article reviews critiques from theologians such as Nigel Biggar, pointing out that the weakness of pneumatology has led to sectarian tendencies in Hauerwas’ ethics and undermined his response to social injustice. However, through the development of pneumatology in his book The Holy Spirit, Hauerwas demonstrates how he expounds on the relationship between the Holy Spirit, the doctrine of the Trinity, the church, and the formation of character. This article suggests that Hauerwas integrates the Wesleyan doctrines of justification and sanctification through the category of character and emphasizes the significant role of the Holy Spirit within this framework. However, it argues that Hauerwas should more directly appeal to the Holy Spirit as Dunamis, shifting the focus of agency from the character formation of the church to the work of the Holy Spirit.
