Vacuum Distillation: Clean and Efficient Separation and Purification of Indium-Cadmium Alloys

A new technology for simple, clean separation and recovery of indium-cadmium alloys, vacuum distillation (VD), was proposed. Based on M-MIVM, which has higher accuracy and reliability in calculating the activity of In-Cd alloys, the separation coefficient of the In-Cd alloy system was calculated. The results show that VD can separate In-Cd alloys. M-MIVM was applied to the study of vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) of In-Cd alloys for the first time, and the VLE phase diagram of In-Cd alloys was established, which clarified the distribution law between vapor and liquid phases in VD of In-Cd alloys. VLE experiments of In-Cd alloys were carried out, and the VLE data of In-Cd alloys were measured. The optimal experimental conditions for separation and purification of indium-cadmium alloys were determined. The results show that 75 wt%. In-Cd alloy can be effectively separated at a distillation temperature of 750-1200 K and system pressure of 5 Pa, and 99.9950 wt% cadmium can be obtained at 750 K and 99.9990 wt% indium can be obtained at 1200 K. The comparison of the VLE experimental and calculated data of the In-Cd alloy system shows that the calculated values are consistent with the experimental values, proving that the VLE prediction model established based on M-MIVM is reliable.
