Size Determination and Safety Assessment Methodology for the Isolated Coal Pillar of Underground Coal Gasification
摘要
To guard against potential hazards of underground coal gasification (UCG), we have proposed a size design and safety evaluation method of UCG isolated coal pillars to meet the requirements of thermal insulation, carrying capacity, seepage prevention, and explosion-proofing, which was applied to evaluate the safety of an isolated coal pillar in Huating UCG industrial test. Theoretical analysis shows that the influence coverage of gasification temperature in the coal seam is about 15 m, which will continue to exist for more than 10 years. Affected by the high temperature, the bearing strength of the isolated coal pillar shows a trend of first decreasing and then increasing, but the vertical thermal stress will provide an additional support to roof strata, thereby improving its comprehensive bearing strength. The high temperature generated during the UCG process will increase the crack length of the coal pillar wall. The maximum impact load generated by a gas explosion is about 0.55 MPa under extreme conditions. The actual width of the isolated coal pillar in Huating is more than twice the theoretical size, and the evaluation result is safe, which is consistent with the actual measurement.
