<p>Research on the recovery of tellurium resources from precious metal telluride ores is at the early stage, and the dissolution mechanism is still unclear. In this paper, the electrochemical reactions of tellurium and tellurides (AuTe<sub>2</sub> and Ag<sub>2</sub>Te) in NaOH, Na<sub>2</sub>S, and NaOH + Na<sub>2</sub>S leaching systems were studied by cyclic voltammetry, and the electrochemical reactions of AuTe<sub>2</sub> and Ag<sub>2</sub>Te in alkaline leaching systems were compared with the cyclic voltammetry of telluride and elemental tellurium. The results show that, in the alkaline leaching system, tellurium in AuTe<sub>2</sub> and Ag<sub>2</sub>Te loses electrons to form Te, and Te continues to lose electrons to form TeO<sub>3</sub><sup>2− </sup>, accompanied by H<sub>2</sub> precipitation. When Na<sub>2</sub>S is present in the solution, the free Ag + produced by Ag<sub>2</sub>Te and S<sup>2− </sup> form insoluble Ag<sub>2</sub>S, and part of TeO<sub>3</sub><sup>2− </sup> combines with S<sup>2-</sup> to form TeS<sub>3</sub><sup>2− </sup>. Na<sub>2</sub>S can reduce the corrosion potential, the activation energy, and the stability of metal ions in the electrode, while NaOH can increase the corrosion current value of the electrode, and the electrochemical activity of the electrode is better, and the electrode reaction is faster. This study provides theoretical basis and guiding significance for comprehensive recovery of tellurium from precious metal tellurides.</p>

Electrochemical Leaching Behavior of Tellurium in Precious Metal Tellurides Under Alkaline Systems
