Preparation and Properties of “Sandwich” Structure WO3/Ag/WOx Electrochromic Thin Films with High Response Rate

WO3 has become one of the most widely used electrochromic films due to its excellent stability and high optical modulation amplitude. However, with the development of commercial applications, the demand for its performance is constantly increasing, so it is of great significance to improve the electrochromic performance of WO3 by doping or composite design. In this experiment, WO3/Ag/WOx “Sandwich” structure composite films were prepared by direct current (DC) magnetron sputtering. The surface morphology and element composition were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The electrochromic properties of the films before and after cycling were studied using an electrochemical workstation and a UV-visible near-infrared spectrophotometer (UV-Vis-NIR). The results show that the addition of Ag layer greatly improved the response rate of the film: the light modulation amplitude of the composite film at 550 nm was 43.01%, the coloring time was 1.8 s, the fading time was 3.7 s, and the coloring efficiency was 36.26 cm2/C. This method provides some ideas for obtaining electrochromic materials with high response rate.
