An Emerging Trend in Substrate Integrated Waveguide Filtering Antenna: Design Strategies, Performance Enhancement, and Applications - A Review
摘要
This paper presents a comprehensive survey on the evolution, design techniques, and performance enhancement strategies of Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) filtering antennas (filtennas), which integrate antenna and filter functionalities into a single compact structure. While several studies have reported individual SIW-based designs, existing review articles are often limited to general SIW components or lack a systematic and up-to-date analysis of integrated filtering antenna architectures. To address this gap, this review provides a structured and comparative investigation of SIW filtennas based on geometry, layer configuration, frequency response, polarization, and application domains. The manuscript further analyzes key performance metrics, including bandwidth, gain, selectivity, and efficiency, highlighting the trade-offs involved in various design approaches. In contrast to previous surveys, this work offers a unified classification framework, incorporates recent developments, and emphasizes performance-driven design strategies for modern RF front-end integration. Additionally, emerging trends and application prospects in next-generation wireless systems, including 5G and beyond, are discussed. This review aims to serve as a comprehensive reference for researchers working on advanced SIW-based filtering antenna technologies.
