Improving Electrochemical Performance by Fine Tuning of Composition in Lithium and Manganese-Rich Cathode Materials
摘要
Li and Mn-rich cathode materials, so-called LMR cathode materials, can offer high specific capacity as well as cost-effectiveness owing to the low price of naturally abundant Mn. However, they suffer from fast energy decay by the irreversible-structure change that occurs during the electrochemical cycling. To address these issues, the effect of lithium to transition metal (TM) ratio and dopant on the electrochemical properties have been investigated. The LMR cathode with a lithium/TM ratio of 1.38 exhibited superior performance compared with less Li composition. Meanwhile, boron and niobium showed retarded voltage decay and enhanced rate capability performance, respectively. After co-doping of boron and niobium, voltage decay and rate capability characteristics were both improved. Our study suggests that fine composition tuning can ameliorate the loss of energy density in LMR cathodes.
