摘要

Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) has been shown to be effective and well-tolerated and according to the limited body of research, even when administered against the patient’s will or in forensic psychiatric settings. As there are very few first-hand accounts from those affected in these contexts, we interviewed patients who were treated with ECT against their will or in forensic psychiatric settings. The results paint a positive picture: the respondents described ECT as well-tolerated and subjectively effective. Such reports can help to reduce reservations and improve access to treatment.
