<p>Personality traits play a&#xa0;significant role in statement validity assessment (SVA), for example when evaluating motives for deception, the quality of the statement’s content and susceptibility to suggestive processes. However, established diagnostic approaches are often of limited use, particularly for identifying subclinical personality difficulties. Recent dimensional models of personality, such as those used in the alternative DSM‑5 model for personality disorders (AMPD) and in the ICD-11, represent substantial progress. They are empirically well-founded and enable a&#xa0;nuanced assessment of personality along a&#xa0;continuum from adaptive to maladaptive personality traits and ultimately to personality disorders. In this article, we explore the potential and practical implementation of dimensional personality assessment within SVA. Drawing on theoretical considerations and empirical findings, we outline the role of specific personality traits in various stages of credibility evaluation. We refer to the hierarchical model of maladaptive personality traits in the AMPD and present specific measures that can be applied in practice. Finally, we highlight future research directions on the role of personality in SVA.</p>
