摘要

Pathological arson or pyromania has its origins in the concepts of mental disorders from the early psychiatry of the nineteenth century. The disorder is classified as an impulse control disorder in both the ICD-10 and the subsequent ICD-11. In the clinical practice the diagnosis of pyromania is only rarely made due to exclusion criteria typically associated with arson. There is ongoing discussion as to whether the disorder concept is outdated and should be revised or abandoned.
