摘要

Escalantiana escalantei rubioi ssp. n., a castniid whose host plant is Agave tequilana F.A.C. Weber, 1902, is described from Jalisco, Mexico. Since its larvae cause severe damage to young agaves, this taxon may pose a risk to tequila production, a distilled beverage of great importance in Mexico. The phenotypic variability of both sexes is illustrated for the nominotypical subspecies and this new subspecies. Identification keys for the distinct taxa of Escalantiana Miller, 2019 are provided, and the distribution of the genus is discussed.
