Cytogenetic analysis of cryptic chromosomal form (2n = 60, NF = 82) of Nannospalax sp. (Spalacidae: Rodentia): conventional karyotype, constitutive heterochromatin, and NOR localization
摘要
In the present study, the 2n = 60, NF = 82 chromosomal form of blind mole rats, Nannospalax sp., from the Arapgir-Malatya Province in Turkey was investigated. Conventional chromosome staining, nucleolar organizer regions (NORs), and C-banding analysis were performed on specimens from this population. The karyotype comprises 10 submetacentric pairs and 19 acrocentric pairs of autosomes, with a fundamental number (NFa) of 78. The NORs were localized in the telomeric regions of the short arms of two autosome pairs (nos. 2 and 7), and only one homologue of autosome pairs nos. 4 and 10 exhibited positive signals in all examined specimens. C-heterochromatin regions were observed in the centromeric regions of all bi-armed autosomal pairs. One of the X chromosomes displayed a large pericentromeric C-positive band, while the other exhibited a dot-like C-positive band.
