Bibliometric analysis of invasive fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)

The fall armyworm (FAW), Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), is a significant economic pest that has rapidly spread around the world. The goal of this study is to consolidate and assess existing research literature on the subject’s biology, ecology, management, and impact. This study uses bibliometric methodologies to evaluate a large collection of research articles, reviews, and conference papers published up to 2023, leveraging data from reputable scientific sources. The study looked at publishing trends, research dispersion, authorship patterns, and citation networks, and the findings demonstrated a significant increase in the body of scholarly literature on FAW. This trend reflects a recent increase in scientific recognition of its significance, and it successfully highlights critical research topics and emerging trends in the field of FAW studies. Citation networks help to find key articles and famous scholars who can provide valuable insights into the conceptual foundations of FAW research. Finally, this bibliometric analysis of the global research environment on the invasive FAW contributes to the understanding of research patterns, collaborative networks, and novel areas of interest.
