Clinical observation of spine-pinching manipulation combined with Bu Huan Jin Zheng Qi San in the treatment of pediatric anorexia

To observe the clinical efficacy of spine-pinching manipulation combined with Bu Huan Jin Zheng Qi San in the treatment of pediatric anorexia and its effects on serum gastrointestinal hormones, appetite-regulating factors, immune indexes, and nutritional status.
MethodsA prospective randomized controlled trial design was adopted. A total of 180 children with pediatric anorexia were enrolled and divided into an observation group and a control group by the simple random grouping method, with 90 cases in each group. The control group was treated with modified Bu Huan Jin Zheng Qi San; the observation group was treated with spine-pinching manipulation therapy in addition to the same drug treatment in the control group. After 4 weeks of treatment, the two groups were compared in terms of clinical efficacy, changes in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) symptom scores, serum gastrointestinal hormones (motilin, gastrin) levels, and serum appetite-regulating factors (neuropeptide Y, orexin, leptin) levels. The nutritional status (serum zinc, serum calcium, hemoglobin) and immune indicators [immunoglobulin (Ig) A, IgM, and IgG] were observed.
ResultsAfter treatment, the total effective rate in the observation group was 92.1%, higher than 82.9% in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the TCM symptom scores and serum leptin levels in both groups decreased compared to those before treatment (P<0.05), and those in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the levels of serum motilin, gastrin, neuropeptide Y, orexin, serum zinc, serum calcium, hemoglobin, IgA, IgM, and IgG in both groups increased compared to those before treatment, and those in the observation group were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05).
ConclusionCompared to Bu Huan Jin Zheng Qi San alone, spine-pinching manipulation combined with Bu Huan Jin Zheng Qi San in the treatment of pediatric anorexia has better clinical efficacy, with more significant effects on improving serum gastrointestinal hormones, appetite-regulating factors, nutritional status, and immune indicators.
