Bibliometric analysis of robotic-assisted hepatobiliary and pancreaticosplenic surgery

This study explored the academic evolution and main ecosystem of robotic hepatobiliary and pancreaticosplenic surgery from 2010 to 2025 using a bibliometric approach for comprehensive multidimensional literature analysis. The field transitioned from an initial stable phase (average of 14 annual articles) to rapid growth driven by technological iterations, the accumulation of clinical evidence, and resource reallocation. The post-2016 decline in average annual citation rates reflects field maturity and research diversification rather than a reduced impact. A complementary journal system disseminated the main findings, with the Journal of Robotic Surgery publishing the highest number of articles. Leading institutions include the Yonsei University College of Medicine and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, with Chinese institutions emerging as significant contributors. International collaboration is robust in Europe and North America but limited in Asia. Thematic evolution has advanced from technological adaptation to intelligent integration, with increasing emphasis on artificial intelligence (AI). This field has advanced from technological exploration to clinical applications. Future advancements should prioritize long-term efficacy research, cross-regional collaborations, and the clinical translation of AI-robotic integration to foster high-quality development.
