Enhanced photocatalytic degradation of ethanol in gas phase and methylene blue in liquid phase using Keggin tungstoborate supported on TiO2
摘要
Lacunary Keggin-tungstoborate (BW11) supported on TiO2 was synthesized via the sol-gel method. Characterization results revealed extensive coverage of the polyoxometalate (POM) on TiO2, along with its significant impact on the specific surface area, morphology, and crystallinity of the material. The photocatalytic activity of the synthesized catalyst was evaluated for the degradation of ethanol in a gas–solid regime and methylene blue (MB) in a liquid–solid regime, both under ambient pressure and room temperature. The TiO2-supported POM catalyst effectively photodegraded ethanol, producing acetaldehyde as an intermediate, which was completely consumed by the end of the reaction. The lacunary Keggin-tungstoborate significantly enhanced the photocatalytic activity of TiO2, achieving 88% ethanol conversion within just 20 min of reaction time. Additionally, the TiO2-supported POM exhibited excellent heterogeneous photocatalytic performance in the decolorization of MB, achieving complete decolorization within 90 min under solar light irradiation.
