摘要

The aim of the present study is to determine the minerals, chemical compounds and antibacterial activity of stem and seed extracts of Ocimum Kilimandcharicum plant using X-ray diffraction, Gas Chromatography—Mass Spectroscopy and UV–Visible spectroscopic studies. The potential antimicrobial activity is studied using Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The results of X-ray diffraction showed that the stems and seeds are a rich source of minerals such as oxides of Potassium, Magnesium, Calcium and Chlorine. The GC–MS analysis indicated that the compounds Camphor, Thujopsene-[12] and Eugenol are present in higher amounts and UV–Visible studies showed the existence of Phytochemicals such as chromophores, carotenoids, xanthophylls, aromatic compounds, amines and chlorophyll. The ethanol extract of stems and seeds showed significant anti microbial activity surpassing the positive control streptomycin. The presence of potential bioactive compounds, minerals and its significant antimicrobial activity justifies the use of stems and seeds of the plant for curing infectious diseases and can be used as a mineral supplement.
