<p>Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) is recognized as a safe and effective stand-alone metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS). Several appealing features of the procedure have made LSG the most performed MBS over the past decade. The current popularity of LSG can be traced back to the vision of pioneering surgeons who believed in the potential of the procedure. They deserve acknowledgment for their contributions, and doing so is timely and fair. Therefore, this narrative review aims to recount the early days of LSG.</p>
