Primäre Ellenbogenendoprothetik bei komplexen distalen Humerusfrakturen älterer Patienten

Primary total elbow arthroplasty is a valid treatment option for complex distal humerus fractures in older patients. The choice of treatment should be based on the specific fracture characteristics, individual patient factors, and the surgeon’s experience. Cemented coupled “semiconstrained” total endoprostheses are commonly implanted. For uncoupled prosthesis designs and hemiprostheses, intact or easily reconstructable condyles and musculoligamentous structures as well as a preserved or replaced radial head are required. The indication must be carefully considered, taking into account the lifelong weight limitation for total endoprostheses and potential intra- and postoperative complications. This article provides an overview of surgical techniques for elbow arthroplasty and the corresponding indications.
