<p>AA2014 aluminum alloys are widely used in non-welded applications in the aerospace industry. The subject brackets of a liquid rocket engine’s propellant tank support line, made with AA2014 forging, are joined by screws and nuts. While tightening the clamp screw, the bracket broke asymmetrically into two pieces. The bracket was manufactured from AA2014 aluminum alloy forging in T652 condition. A detailed metallurgical analysis was conducted on the failed bracket to determine the root cause of failure and to propose remedial measures to prevent recurrence. A photograph of a failed bracket is shown in Fig. <InternalRef RefID="Fig1">1</InternalRef>. The fracture surface of the bracket revealed brittle failure and the presence of Mn, Fe and Si&#xa0;rich intermetallics.</p>
