摘要

In the present research work, the experimental analysis of the gearbox system for ferrography using the direct and analytical approach is done. An attempt is made to develop a graphical user interface for the ferrographic study of wear particles through the lubricating oil sample collected from the gearbox. Analytical as well as direct reading ferrography is used for severity detection of wear, which indicates the condition of the gearbox. Through Graphical User Interface implementation, the severity and wear mechanism can be easily detected, and remedial actions can be taken during maintenance. The detailed decision making for developing the algorithm is explained through a flow chart, and it is prepared for severity display and analytical ferrography results. This tool, based on the spectroscopic oil analysis program (SOAP), gives the early detection of wear mechanisms and wear particle sizes and prevents the catastrophic failure of the system under consideration. This saves the breakdown maintenance cost and enhances the availability of the system.
