Enhancing Reliability in Shell and Tube Heat Exchangers: Establishing Plugging Criteria for Tube Wall Loss and Estimating Remaining Useful Life

  • Mohammad Atiqur Rahman

摘要

This research focuses on assessing and enhancing the reliability of shell and tube heat exchangers through the use of eddy current tests. This study introduces a plugging criteria methodology that considers wall thickness reduction, heat exchanger design, and operational parameters. Linear regression analysis applied to successive eddy current tests allows for the projection of tube wall thickness loss. The analysis of the projected degradation growth rate aids in identifying tubes exceeding plugging criteria, necessitating intervention during outages. Subsequently, the estimation of the remaining useful life provides valuable insights for proactive measures, including monitoring, repair, retubing, rebundling, or replacement planning. This research offers a comprehensive approach to ensure the reliability and longevity of shell and tube heat exchangers.
