Design and Analysis of New Auto-Tensioning Device for Overhead Catenary System of Railway

In this paper, a new compact spring-based Auto-Tensioning Device (ATD) is designed using TRIZ methodology complying the Indian railway standards having reduced weight and maintains the constant tension. Analytical calculations are done and verified with FE analysis by conducting Multibody Dynamic (MBD) analysis along with structural analysis to optimize the stress generation in individual components. The spring ATD reduces significant weight and maintains constant tension in the contact and catenary cables, thereby preventing failures due to sag and tension variation.
