Thermal Failure Analysis of Gear Transmission System

With its advantages of high transmission accuracy, dependable operation and high efficiency, gear transmission is the most significant and widely used type of mechanical transmission. It is used extensively in aerospace, machinery, transportation, instrument manufacturing and other industries. However, the relative sliding friction between the meshing tooth surfaces will produce a lot of heat, which will not only lower the transmission efficiency but also lead to failures like gluing and pitting of the gear teeth. Combined with the domestic and international research progress in gear thermal analysis, three aspects of theoretical calculation, numerical simulation and experimental research of gear transmission thermal analysis are analyzed, and key research directions are proposed. The analysis results show that the current methods of gear transmission system thermal analysis have their different advantages and disadvantages. The integration of multiple methods and improvement of existing technologies are expected to be one of the key research focuses in this field in the future.
