Understanding of the Improvement in the Strength of TIG-Welded 2A12 Aluminum Joints with TiB2-Modified Filler Wire
摘要
The objective of this study is to investigate tungsten inert gas (TIG)-welded 2A12 aluminum alloy butt joints with nano-TiB2-modified filler wire. The influence of TiB2 particles on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the joints is analyzed. The results indicate that the average grain size (AGS) in the weld zone with the TiB2 addition is decreased from 55.21 to 29.45 μm. Due to the TiB2 addition in the weld zone, the grains are significantly refined. Cu segregation is notable along the grain boundaries, forming Cu-enriched boundary zones. EBSD analysis indicates an increase in the proportion of high-angle grain boundaries (HAGBs) from 89.3 to 92.4% with the TiB2 addition, suggesting more random grain orientation and improved grain refinement. The tensile strength of the joints with the TiB2 addition could reach 332.6 MPa. The incorporation of TiB2 particles into the weld zone improves the strength of TIG-welded 2A12 aluminum joints.
