Influence of Current Density on Mechanical Properties of Electrodeposited Zn-Ni Coating
摘要
Knowledge acquisition of how deposition conditions can affect the mechanical properties of deposited Zn-Ni alloy coatings will make it possible to expand the scope of their application in the future. Thus, it was decided to study the effect of current conditions on selected mechanical properties of Zn-Ni alloy coatings. It was observed that the application of pulsed current significantly affected the microstructure and morphology of the obtained coatings, while it had no significant effect on the nickel content of the obtained coatings. Changing the current characteristics from direct current to pulsed plating current changed the microstructure of the coatings from coarse-grained and disordered to fine-grained and columnar. This caused changes in the mechanical properties of the resulting coatings. First, the use of pulsed current made it possible to obtain alloy coatings with higher microhardness and lower compressive stresses. However, no significant differences were found in the adhesion of the obtained Zn-Ni coatings and their Young’s modulus. However, it was found that coatings deposited under direct current conditions showed better plastic properties. The application of pulsed current made the obtained coatings more brittle.
