摘要

Physical and gamma-ray shielding characteristics competence of Sb2O3-doped barium sodium borophosphate glasses with chemical formula 20P2O5-10BaTiO3-53B2O3-(17-x)Na2O + xSb2O3: x = 0.0 (Sb0.0), 1.5 (Sb1.5), 3.0 (Sb3.0), 4.5 (Sb4.5), and 6.0 (Sb6.0) mol% have been investigated. Glasses were synthesized by the traditional melt quenching route. Monte Carlo N–Particle Transport (MCNP5) code and Phy-X/PSD program were applied to achieve the presented work. The density (ρ) of Sb0.0-Sb6.0 glasses varied from 3.05 to 3.35 g/cm3, whereas molar volume (Vm) changed from 32.47 to 33.75 cm3/mol. Values of mass attenuation coefficient (MAC) values for Sb0.0, Sb1.5, Sb3.0, Sb4.5, and Sb6.0, respectively, were 13.403, 14.683, 15.880, 17.002, and 18.056 cm2/g at 0.015 MeV. The linear attenuation coefficient (LAC) of the studied glasses has the same trend as the MAC. Therefore, (MAC, LAC)Sb0.0 < (MAC, LAC)Sb1.5 < (MAC, LAC)Sb3.0 < (MAC, LAC)Sb4.5 < (MAC, LAC)Sb6.0. Penetration and attenuation parameters including Half value layer, tenth value layer, and mean free path (MFP) of the studied Sb-glasses followed nearly similar patterns as (HVL, TVL, MFP)Sb6.0 > (HVL, TVL, MFP) Sb1.5 > (HVL, TVL, MFP)Sb3.0 > (HVL, TVL, MFP)Sb4.5 > (HVLS, TVL, MFP)Sb6.0. The effective atomic number (Zeff) values for glasses from (Sb0.0 to Sb6.0) ranged from (26.97-32.54) at photon energy 0.015 MeV. The results show that the proposed glasses in this study have a high potential for radiation shielding when compared to various commercial concrete and other glasses.
