摘要

The SiCp/Al composite exhibits severe tool wear and poor machined surface quality in daily machining. Therefore, this study proposes a laser-induced oxidation-assisted turning (LOT) process for machining 45%SiCp/Al composites, and optimal laser-induced oxidation is achieved. The morphology and phase composition of the surface layer and sublayer under laser irradiation as well as the surface morphology of the machined material are investigated. In addition, the influence of turning parameters on cutting force and surface roughness is thoroughly investigated to reveal the mechanism behind tool wear. Compared to conventional turning (CT), LOT reduces Fx by 23% and Fy by 18%. The main surface defects observed after LOT include particle breakage, particle ejection, and matrix cracking. Using a feed rate of 0.005 mm/r and a cutting depth of 0.02 mm, the minimum surface roughness Sa is measured to be 0.121 μm, with LOT outperforming CT in terms of increased tool life and improved surface quality.
