Synthesis and Characterization of Activated Carbon from Corncob for High-Performance Electrode Materials for Supercapacitor Applications
摘要
Activated carbon from corncob has been a new and efficient material for high performance electrode due to high porous and eco-friendly nature. Activated carbon was prepared from corncob with the aid of chemical agent H3PO4 (C1) and combined agent H3PO4 and KOH (C2) at 500° C by chemical activation method. The calculated interlayer spacing is about 3.8 Å which clearly indicates that the prepared activated carbon has more interaction nature. The BET surface area indicates that the chemical compounds on the corncob were partially degraded by the combined agent, resulting in an increase in the specific surface area and pore volume. The estimated specific capacitance of C2 is about 138.82 F/g at a current density of 1 A/g in 1 M Na2SO4 electrolyte. The charge transfer resistance of the sample C1 and C2 was 8.8722 Ω and 1.3455 Ω, respectively. The obtained results clearly disclose that prepared material is sustainable and efficient energy storage in supercapacitors and also emphasize the eco-friendly materials.
