<p>MnO–SiO<sub>2</sub>–TiO<sub>2</sub> fluxes have been designed to improve weldability for EH550 offshore engineering steel. It has been demonstrated that 40 mass pct TiO<sub>2</sub> enables the weld metal to possess a yield strength of 593 MPa and an impact energy of 58.9 J. Such enhancement is directly attributed to TiO<sub>2</sub>-assisted element transfer, which suppresses Mn and Si contents while simultaneously reduces C loss by 0.0116 mass pct. Underlying mechanisms responsible for optimal weldability have been postulated.</p>
