Role of CaO/SiO2 Ratio Upon Inclusion Characteristics of EH36 Shipbuilding Steel Treated by CaF2–MnO–CaO–SiO2 Fluxes

CaF2–MnO–CaO–SiO2 fluxes with varying CaO/SiO2 ratios are designed and employed in submerged arc welding of EH36 shipbuilding steel. As the CaO/SiO2 ratio enhances, the fraction of Al–Mn–Si–O inclusions increases at the expense of Al–Mn–Si–Ti–O inclusions. Meanwhile, the number density and average size of inclusions decrease from 5564 to 4491 mm−2 and from 0.727 to 0.612 μm, respectively. Such phenomenon demonstrates that the CaO/SiO2 ratio is a critical parameter for controlling inclusion features.
