Mechanism, Kinetics, and Technology of MgCl2 Production by Interaction of MgCO3 with a Mixture of Cl2 + CO

摘要

When heated, MgCO3 does not interact with the Cl2 + CO mixture and it is only after dissociation of carbonate the MgO formed participates in the chlorination reaction. Moreover, due to the heat generated, the resulting MgCl2 melt immediately forms a liquid film on the surface of the oxide. The maximum rate of chlorine assimilation by the magnesium oxide layer is observed at an excess of carbon monoxide in the gas phase relative to the stoichiometry of the reaction, PCO/PCl2 = 2.3, and found to be ~ 7.5·10−5 m3/m2 s. A specific capacity of ~ 6.92 t MgCl2/m2 day was achieved at the pilot chlorinator. To improve the process efficiency, it is necessary to recirculate part of the waste gases to the CO generator.
