Assessment of the Volume Effect and Application of an Improved Tracer in Physical Model of a Single-Strand Bare Tundish

The transport processes of saturated KCl solution and KCl solution–ethanol mixed improved tracer in a bare single-strand tundish were studied using water model experiments. The saturated KCl solution tracer exhibits severe short-circuiting flow and backflow, while the improved tracer exhibits plug flow behavior in the tundish, which is similar to ideal flow in computational fluid dynamics results. The volume effect of improved tracers on the flow field in the tundish is relatively weak and can be neglected.
