Real-Time Visualization of Solute Transport and Microstructural Evolution During Solidification in Al-40wt Pct Cu Under a Static Magnetic Field
摘要
The real-time dynamics of solute transport during solidification under the coupled effects of electromagnetic braking and thermoelectric magnetohydrodynamics remain poorly understood. Here, we employ X-ray radiography to investigate the crystal growth under a 17 mT static magnetic field. Macroscopic electromagnetic braking suppresses buoyancy-driven solute plumes, stabilizing the solidification front. Concurrently, thermoelectric magnetohydrodynamic results in a striking asymmetry in solute distribution and microstructure across the sample.
