On Estimating Hydrogen Equilibrium Diagrams for Commercial Aluminum Casting Alloys

Data from the literature on equilibrium hydrogen concentration in liquid and solid binary aluminum alloys have been evaluated. Empirical models have been developed to estimate (a) equilibrium hydrogen concentration in multicomponent alloys in liquid and solid phases, and (b) equilibrium diagrams for eight casting alloys. Results indicate that (i) there is a strong effect of chemical composition, (ii) equilibrium hydrogen diagrams vary significantly between alloys and are not similar to that for pure aluminum.
