From Thermal Stabilization to Quench and Partitioning, a Model

This work discusses the kinetic path of the carbon during the quench and partition (Q&P) process in a FeNiC. We relate the Q&P process with the thermal stabilization of residual austenite. The critical point is the stability of the martensite-austenite interface owing to carbon interaction with the interface. Our results indicated that the Q&P process is divided into two main paths and that the carbon partition characterizes the system’s evolution to a para-equilibrium condition.
